Residential Electric Only Heat Systems(click for more information)
Forced air electric heat
strips and radiant ceiling heat. We work on these every winter.
The codes have changed over the years and they
have not favored electric only heat. This includes heat strips or electric
radiant heat. This is not heat from a heat pump. The State of California no
longer allows electric heat as the primary source of heat. The heat from the
electric only source cannot exceed 10% of the full load and can only be used
as back up. This is without regard to the existing system in the home. We
cannot replace an electric only heater with a like product. A heat pump
system must be installed. Electric ceiling radiant heat cannot be repaired
when the wiring breaks (it is no longer manufactured) and therefore an
alternate heating system is required. Give us a call and we will come to
your home or place of business and give you the options that you do have.
What does Efficiency and SEER mean?
This is the ratio of the number of btu's of cooling compared
to the amount of electricity used. The higher the seer rating the less that
the unit will cost you to operate. For more information click here.

R22 and R410A. What is the difference?
There is quite a bit of confusion about the new Freon R410A.
It is not more efficient. It is not less efficient. It is simply different.
It operates at a higher pressure than R22 (200-300psi vs. 400-550psi). Nearly
every manufacturer is switching to R410a because of EPA regulations. R410A
is not suppose to damage the ozone layer. Carrier Corp. has named R410a "Puron"
for marketing purposes. It is the same product, the name is only hype for
marketing purposing. I think that it is shameful.
If I get an R22 system now, will the Freon be banned like
what the government did with cars?
NO. Don't worry about it. R22 Freon will be around far longer
than the normal lifespan of your equipment. There are no large taxes that
are currently being contemplated for R22 like what was done with cars.
