Discussion of "Genuine" Vs "Generic"
Repair Parts
1. In recent years there has been a rapid
proliferation in the marketplace of "generic", "knock off" or "imitation" copies
of Manufacturer's repair parts, usually made "off-shore"
2. These parts have no rightful place in the chain
of supply to significant high quality installations, for the following reasons:
- They are made to dimensional specifications
only. The quality and properties of the material employed generally do
not equal those of the original and do
not conform to the original manufacturer's specifications.
- It has been well documented that the "in-use
life" of generic parts is far shorter than that of the originals. At
the current cost of labor, frequency of replacement must be kept to a minimum.
We have reports of leakages, breakage, jamming mechanisms and early corrosion.
- Perhaps the most critical item of all -
Original Equipment Manufacturers may nullify any factory warranty of end items,
if their equipment is improperly repaired with "non-genuine" parts.
