How Good Are Furnace Warranties

You Have to Read The Fine Print:

Carrier Furnaces: “the Company will allow a credit in the amount of the then factory selling price for a new equivalent part toward the retail purchase price of a new Company product”. Doesn’t this mean that if you firebox cracks under warranty the Company will allow you to buy another one of the products at a slight discount? I have seen this in actual use. The client got a coupon in the mail for $120. This is a near useless warranty.

Warranty is not transferrable for most applications and it you fall into the application where it is transferrable you have only 90 days to register it otherwise that 20 year limited warranty is reduced to 5 years.

“…warrants this product against failure due to defect in materials or workmanship under normal use and
maintenance”
If you cannot prove that your furnace was maintained your warranty can be voided. Here is the actual warranty.

York Furnaces:      “Company may, at its option, extend a replacement allowance to be applied toward the purchase of a new furnace marketed by Company. The exact amount of the allowance will be determined at the discretion of Company, based upon current market conditions, but in no case shall this allowance exceed thirty (30) percent of the original consumer purchase price of the furnace, excluding such items as ductwork, wiring, piping, and installation costs. Company shall have no responsibility hereunder for installation, shipping, handling or other charges except as specifically provided herein.” Doesn’t this mean that if you firebox cracks under warranty the Company will allow you to buy another one of the products at a slight discount?

“Cleaning or replacement of filters or damages resulting from operation with inadequate supply of air”

If you cannot prove that your furnace was maintained your warranty can be voided. Here is the actual warranty.

Rheem Furnaces: a) damages, malfunctions, or failures resulting from failure to properly install, operate or maintain Covered Equipment in accordance with the Manufacturer’s instructions;
f) Covered Equipment which is not installed by a qualified, trained HVAC professional in accordance
with applicable codes, ordinances and good trade practices;
i) Covered Equipment when operated with system components (indoor unit, outdoor unit, coil and
refrigerant control devices) or accessories which do not match or meet the specifications recommended
by the Manufacturer;
j) any Covered Equipment manufactured by the Manufacturer that has been sold to the consumer via
the internet or auction website, and has not been installed by a trained, qualified HVAC professional.
k) Covered condensing units that are not part of a properly matched system as specified by the Air
Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).
l) Covered heat pumps that are not part of a properly matched system as specified by the Manufacturer
and the Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).

If you install a Rheem furnace with a non Rheem evaporator coil or a non Rheem air conditioner you have no warranty. There are far more exclusions. Here is the actual Warranty.

Nearly All Manufacturers Exclude Their Warranties From the Following:

Lack of Proper Airflow

Lack of proper airflow is the number one reason for furnace failure of the heat exchanger. Most systems have undersized ductwork. Most systems have ductwork installed poorly. They are easy to fix. Just give us a call an we will cme to your home for free estimate.
